Getting to know my Island(s)

                                                                                                                       Antigua and Barbuda      The culture of Antigua and Barbuda is majority Afro-Antiguans which makes up 87 percent of the population ! The islands also have small percentages of Portuguese, middle eastern, and other small mixed groups. The history of these beautiful islands start by the hunter/ gatherers called the Ciboney and The famous Christopher Columbus was the first sight the islands but, didn't stay because of the water. The islands weren't settled  again until 1632 by the British . In Antigua and Barbuda their main language is English and then some speak creole amongst others.  The islands practice many different types of Religions mainly different forms of Christianity like Anglican, Methodist, Catholic and more that influence their African beliefs.  The foods that are common there are places that are found in the U.S. like KFC and Subway that attract to

                                                               ANGUILLA The island of Anguilla was colonized by the English in 1650. It was only colonized once by the British. The first people to settle on the island were the Arawak's around 2000 B.C. and when the British first came and colonized the island they had vanished. Anguilla gained it's independence in 1980 when it officially separated from Saint Kitts. During the 19th century the British associated Anguilla and Saint Kitts and Nevis with each other which gave Saint Kitts governmental control over Anguilla which they did not like. In 1967 the Anguillans rebelled against them and the British intervened and placed the island under complete British rule with the Anguilla Act of 1971. This beautiful island food is tasty fruits, seafood, and vegetables influenced by the Spanish, French, and English. Their national dish is pigeon peas which is usually served with a meat of choice.                                               WHY ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA !        Things to know about Antigua and Barbuda -  their climate is one of the most temperate climates in the world !  Population is mainly black and Hispanic along with small percentage of Portuguese  official language - English and the Antiguan Creole  Food- Since their food is mainly imported from the British and American colonies their food is much like ours. They have places like KFC and subway plus more. My name is Aniya  I am an biology major and this is my  sophomore year at GGC . My hobbies and interests are working out , painting, and playing the piano. I work at chick-fil-a currently. I have a pet dog named chocolate and have three younger siblings. I am getting my masters degree at Florida state and desire to be in the medical field . My career options are pharmacist, nurse anesthetist , and marine veterinarian. I absolutely love animals and am a environmentalist. I also plan to study abroad over seas in either London or Germany my senior year at GGC .
